The General Flying Progress Test (GFPT)
Want to learn to fly? No matter how far you want to proceed in aviation, everybody must first obtain a Student Pilots Licence. The basic requirements to hold a Students Pilot Licence are:
- minimum 16 years of age
- possess the ability to communicate in English

A student Licence allows you to undertake flight training towards your General Flying Progress Test (GFPT), just like your learners permit whilst you are learning to drive a car. The General Flying Progress Test (GFPT) is an endorsement on your student pilots Licence which allows you to carry passengers within the confines of the training area of the airport from which you departed - which may be any airport in Australia. Our training area extends from Bankstown to Warragamba Dam in the west and Camden in the south.

To be granted the GFPT endorsement you are required to undertake a flight test which will be conducted by an Authorised Testing Officer (ATO). The minimum flight time required to be recommended for your GFPT, as set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is 20 hours which includes 5 hours of solo practice. To be recommended for your GFPT you are required to display a competent level of airmanship (Attitude, Safety & Common Sense) and flying ability.

To ensure you easily meet the test requirements PROFLITE AUSTRALIA syllabus has been formulated to include up to 35 hours of flight training (this includes 8 hours of solo practice and your Flight Test).

This flight training may be carried out in our Piper Tomahawk two seat trainer, or our Piper Warrior four seat trainer, although due to cost we would recommend the Tomahawk. In addition to your flight training you will also be required to complete three multiple choice examinations integrated within your training program - the first of these is a small 20 question quiz (called Pre Solo Air Legislation) prior to completing your first solo take off & landing, followed by a 20 question quiz (called Pre Area Solo Air Legislation) prior to completing your first solo flight to the training area and finally, a 30 question test called Basic Aeronautical Knowledge prior to being recommended for your flight test.

So if you would like to begin your flight training with Proflite Australia, why not give us a call (02 9791 0006) or click on the Contact Us link on the top of this page and send us an email. You could begin by booking a trial instructional flight, which starts at $70 for half an hour and you get to fly the aircraft for most of the flight!
